The role of women in the Sustainability & Agri-FoodTech industry is finally growing, but there are still some hurdles left to jump. The great news is that female leaders are in high-demand, as they are recognized for bringing a diversity of vision and execution strategy crucial to startup success. According to our industry salary survey, 7 of the top 10 paid executives were women. The glass ceiling is finally breaking, but let’s look at some underlying issues that still impact women in Agri-FoodTech.
Although the landscape is changing, the career path for female executives is still difficult. During their rise to the top, female CEO’s have had to face more scrutiny, double standards, and a higher bar for excellence. They’ve had to show incredible resilience and develop a thick skin because of an environment that did not historically promote female talent. This brings us to our second issue.
The fact that in the past female employees were often overlooked for promotion or even hiring, means that now there’s a very real gap between demand and supply for female leaders in Agri-FoodTech. That’s why we sat down with Pam Marrone of Marrone Bio Innovations. As a trailblazer and arguably the first female powerhouse in the Agri-FoodTech sector, she’s well positioned to tell us what Agri-FoodTech startups can do to find, attract and secure women for their executive team.
